Hey guys have similar problem with mk5 golf 1.9tdi cluster does not work, no lights when key inserted and ignition turned on. Managed to get car started by bypassing the immobiliser. It all started last weekend engine oil pressure low warning and engine cutoff message appeared on dash. Engine cutoff and noticed smoke from passenger side fuse box.
If you look at the thread referenced above, it is the one microswitch that does NOT have a part number listed for it (no one knows exactly what the part number is). The options for fixing is to retrofit in a new microswitch and wire it properly, or shell out the $100+ and replace the whole module.
